🎯
Vicinity
Guess the secret word by meaning — every guess shows how close you are.
How to play
- There is one secret word each day. Type any word and Vicinity tells you how close in meaning it is — a warmth band from cold to hot, plus a rank.
- Closeness is semantic, not spelling: ocean is warm for wave; oven is not.
- Theme connections appear as you guess (✓ shares WEATHER) — use them to triangulate.
- Solve it in as few guesses as you can. Hints are optional and always your choice.
Controls
- Type a word and press Enter. Every guess stays on the board with its warmth.
Techniques
Probe broadly
Open with far-apart concepts — animal, tool, feeling, place. One warm probe tells you the neighborhood; nine cold ones tell you almost as much.
Triangulate
Two warm words define a direction. Guess the concept between or beyond them — if ocean and storm are both warm, try wave, rain, or wind.
Use the theme checks
A ✓ SHARES-WEATHER connection names the region of meaning you've entered. Stay inside it and narrow with more specific words.
Mind the rank, not just the band
Two hot guesses aren't equal — rank 40 versus rank 300 says which flank is closer. Chase the falling number.
Example
wave → 🟥 cold sea → 🟧 warm ocean → 🟩 hot
Guesses warm as their meaning approaches the secret — spelling never matters.
Tip · Start broad (animal, place, feeling) to find the neighborhood, then narrow.
